Angela B @Angbri 3 days ago This is my first rotten tomato, and this movie deserves all the praise it has received. The cadence of the movie made you become attached to Ruth and her life. I wanted to reach through the screen and give her a hug. The music, the color, and the way the movie unfolded were beautiful. I highly recommend it. See more
Shelby D @Shelbydroege Oct 30, 2026 This was a beautifully tragic story. I could appreciate the authentic, raw emotion coming from the actors & actresses. See more
Jennifer E @jennijace Oct 24, 2026 Lonely is a beautifully moving story, and acted wonderfully by Sandra Flagstad (Ruth). It’s about the vulnerability of growing old alone and becoming invisible to the world around you, having no one to depend on yet needing a network of helpers that you don’t have. Ruth didn’t given up on life that’s not why she’s alone. She enjoys her hobbies and tries to make connections even doing speed dating. The film really captures the difference between being independent and feeling completely alone. I cried at times because her loneliness felt so painfully real and something that we’re all afraid of it happening to us as it is common in older age and even well before then. The writing shows empathy and understanding for the quiet struggles of loneliness. It ends hopeful. It’s touching and will stay with me. I’m looking forward to seeing any other works by the writers/director. See more
Tiffiny S @RT80414294 Oct 20, 2026 Really beautiful. It’s hard to capture in words what this film made me feel. I felt connected to this woman early on, and that feeling only grew as the film continued. The quiet moments were just as powerful as the loud ones. There was something so human about it all that left me feeling vulnerable and emotional. It did what a great film does-it stayed with me. See more
Dave R @RT04943983 Oct 20, 2026 What a truly phenomenal movie about the human experience, there are few movies that I believe could have you laughing, sobbing, sitting on the edge of your seat, and gasping for breath all in such a short time as this one has. It's beautiful, heartbreaking and inspiring. Loneliness is something that afflicts us all. We all have periods of darkness, some longer than others. What we particularly forget about, is that it's not inherently an issue that's confined to our youth. Our need for love, companionship, and connection doesn't simply disappear as we grow older. This film showcases that perfectly. What makes it so special, is its ability to remind us that it's never too late to live, to love, to make amends, or to begin again. Lonely is a powerful reminder that behind every face is a lifetime of experiences, regrets, hopes and dreams. Sometimes all it takes to change someone's world is to remind them they aren't alone. Or perhaps to encourage them to knit. (I wrote this sobbing btw) See more
Ain A @RT52038662 Oct 20, 2026 Lonely is a truly once-in-a-generation experience. Despite being only an hour and thirty minutes, you get attached to Ruth and her situation. You start to pray that everything aligns itself to at least give her some form of solace and relief. I was watching this movie with my boyfriend, and from beginning to end we cried with Ruth; we cried for her. You see every facet of the human experience from the eyes of somebody who has seen the entire world pass them by and struggle to walk back into it. You feel as she feels; you laugh as she laughs; you smile as she does because every second feels as if you are experiencing it in reality. Not necessarily in the sense that you are the lonely person, but more so watching somebody you knew overcome it and make the changes to improve herself and her life despite the hardship she faces. I cannot recall the last time either of us have cried with a movie or experienced it the way we did with Lonely. See more
