Pierce Brosnan singing, but enjoyed the movie overall See more Marco L @decatur555 1d I already struggle enormously with musicals, and the first Mamma Mia! was almost a perfect demonstration of why. This sequel sends me straight back into the same world: conversations turning into songs, relentless choreography, ABBA everywhere and an overwhelming insistence on happiness that leaves me completely disconnected. I can admit that Lily James is a stronger musical performer, that some numbers are staged better and that the sequel is technically more polished than its predecessor. None of that changes my experience. Adding Cher, Andy Garcia and more familiar faces only makes the production bigger, not more appealing. The movie proudly embraces its kitsch excess, and I understand that millions of viewers love precisely that. I simply do not. Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper look like life has taken a toll on them badly. Much of the movie did not have its breezy, retro magic or charm, and felt quite dull to the senses. By this time however, I realise that I am completely hooked by the original songs. Meryl's reluctance to return for this sequel feels like the main reason for its shodiness. I didn't want to see as much of the past. It was lovely to see all the other characters again. For a while, I was disappointed to think they wrote off Bill and Harry too. See more VITALII H @freakynickison Mar 21 Wow, I didn’t like it. It doesn’t even hold a candle to the first movie, which was phenomenal. How can you go from the masterpiece to this? It just feels like all of the magic got sucked out of this movie. Does not make sense to me. It’s so obvious that they tried to recreate the success that the previous movie had, but they failed miserably in my opinion. Even Cher couldn’t save the movie. I make it sound like it was bad bad but really it was okay… Just uninspiring, performative, unnecessary and "fake". My favorite part of this movie was Meryl singing with Amanda towards the end.
