Gangster Duke Castenega (George Walsh) asks his ex-girlfriend, Kate (Marion Burns), to provide him with the combination numbers to safe deposit boxes at the bank where she works. When Duke is arrested, he escapes and hides in Kate's attic. Danny Dolan (Spencer Tracy), who's just received a promotion to detective, is assigned to find the gangster. He's in love with Kate's sister, Helen (Joan Bennett), and seeks her help in the investigation -- but Helen is reluctant to place Kate in jeopardy.

William L @RT77267842 02/13/2021 Not really balanced between its romantic comedy elements and cops and robbers second half storyline, Me and My Gal is enjoyable mostly for its silliness and wonderfully dated detective dialogue. If you want to hear Spencer Tracy talk about "bad hombres" and make cracks with a few chowderheads on their way to give a once-over to some wise guys down at the precinct, then you'll get some enjoyment from the film. Bennett and Tracy are actually an entertaining pair, playing off one another well even if neither is really the straight man in their comedy pairing. As a crime film its very much a tired exercise, but it's got its redemptive moments.
