Robin Williams is magnificent, turning Daniel’s disastrous disguise into a showcase for physical comedy, razor-sharp timing, and unexpected vulnerability. The divorce story also gives the chaos real emotional stakes, with Sally Field grounding the film in the difficult truth that good intentions don’t excuse selfish behavior. Not every gag lands, and the increasingly improbable plot mechanics and relentless slapstick can occasionally feel exhausting. Regardless of its few shortcomings, Williams’ commitment carries the film through its weaker moments. Funny, messy, and unabashedly sentimental, Mrs. Doubtfire ultimately works because its heart is every bit as memorable as its jokes.
