TheFilmCritics @TheFilmCritics Aug 30 Few comedy premises are as inherently irresistible as cloning yourself, and Multiplicity makes a strong case for the idea—at least whenever Michael Keaton is on screen. His four distinct Dougs are brilliantly differentiated, with the dim-witted Doug Four stealing nearly every scene and supplying the film’s most enduring laughs. Unfortunately, the script can’t match Keaton’s inventiveness. A premise with limitless comic possibilities settles into repetitive misunderstandings, stretches of sluggish pacing, and supporting characters largely reduced to bystanders. The finale also plays things surprisingly safe, opting for a tidy resolution when the concept practically begs for glorious chaos. There are enough sharp gags and memorable performances to make the film an amiable watch, but too much dead space separates the highlights. In the end, Keaton’s comedic versatility is the real attraction, while the movie around him feels like a copy that never quite lives up to the original. My brother and I quote this movie all the time. Keatons best role in my opinion. He plays himself as well as 3 other very distinct characters that all have charm. -a no bullcrap guy -an OCD sensitive -a complete idiot The movie takes a bit to build up, but then really gets fun. I made my wife watch it and she now quotes it as well. If u liked Mr Mom, or Night shift, Kearon has just as many quotes and scenes from this one for sure.
