Parenting and marriage are becoming tougher and tougher for Toula and her husband Ian. Not only has their relationship lost some of its spark, but they're also dealing with a rebellious teenage daughter who clashes with Greek traditions. On top of that, Toula must contend with aging parents and the endless needs of cousins and friends. When a shocking family secret comes to light, the entire Portokalos clan makes plans to come together for an even bigger wedding than before.

Critics Consensus

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 is as sweet and harmless as the original, but its collection of sitcom gags and stereotypes never coalesces into anything resembling a story with a purpose.

There is so much food, music, dancing and crying that you want to come out, at the end, and find a quiet place to watch paint dry. Unless, of course, you loved MBFGW1 and have spent 14 years waiting for MBFGW2.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 isn't a bad sequel, it's just a pointless one.

14 years after the insanely inescapable success of My Big Fat Greek Wedding comes its sequel ... This time around, the charm is gone.

Such is an easy draw, but that charm has limits in a been-there-done-that sequel.

There's not an ounce of cynicism here, and I think audiences might respond to the sweet open heartedness of Vardalos and company, but there isn't a lot of originality here either.

Writing and plot sucked. Hated most of the characters and the decisions the story writers and actors made. Toula spent most of the movie just standing and smiling and I hated her for it. Constant clichés that made me cringe. I made more confused and annoyed faces than I have for any other movie. Never watching this again.

Nia puts together a great film again! I Iintroduced my wife and 13yrold daughter to the trilogy (Greek word I bet, so there you go). We started with BFGW2 and they loved it, loads of laughs and relatable themes. Cast is a gem as always and left us looking frwd to the primal and follow-up!

The story might not be quite as good as the first, but there’s still plenty to love in it. Paris, the daughter of Toula and Ian, is a good addition to the cast, in my opinion. You really WANT to see her get through high school without being embarrassed by her HUGE Greek family 😂😂. Toula’s family is still HiLARIOUS as ever 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.

Some sequels aren't as good as the first movie in the series, but I thought this one was.
