Marco L @decatur555 Jul 24 Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase is a decent and pleasant mystery that is easy to watch, although it never becomes as exciting as it could have been. Sophia Lillis is clearly the best part of the film, bringing freshness, charm and a natural energy to Nancy without turning her into an unrealistically perfect teenager. The friendship between the girls works well and gives the story warmth, but the central mystery is too simple, predictable and safe. The old house, hidden rooms and supposed supernatural events had plenty of potential, yet the film rarely creates real tension or atmosphere. It moves at a good pace and never becomes boring, but very little stays in the memory afterwards. Watchable, likeable and completely forgettable.
