While it certainly doesn't reach the comedic heights of their earlier collaborations, if you're a long-time fan of the unbeatable comedic chemistry between Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, there's still enough of their signature charm and well-worn banter to make it a fun, albeit somewhat forgettable, reunion. See more Blu B @RT43513976 01/03/2025 This could've just been titled any other generic comedy name with Lemmon & Matthau and would'nt change anything. Besides the names of the characters their is almost nothing to do with the original. If there is one thing I give it credit for is that they didn't just make the same thing over again and "Tried" to do something different and the end result is a road movie mixed with a wedding rom com type of story. The plot is farfetched, stupid, and doesn't even make a serious attempt to be even close to good. But it does flow enough I guess and to it's credit it follows some flow of things. Ridiculous things and they all feel more like gags that a movie from one of the SNL movies of this era would have more than anything. Matthau is good here with a dead pan delivery and Lemmon isn't bad but isn't given as strong lines as Matthau is. Honestly the acting isn't bad because of those two playing off of each other. And to it's credi the humor gets a laugh half the time which is supirsing. The music is a remix of the original theme which isn't bad and the other stuff is just alright honestly. It's generic stuff from any mid late 90's family comedy. The cinematography isn't bad here with some funny scenes but a lot of the humor is just surface level "Old People" jokes. The humor hitting half the time REALLY helps a lot as this never really drags even when the humor falls flat half the time. It's very light hearted and in the 2nd half it's very sentimental. honesty it's two different films. And if you seperated them nothing is lost. The sharp dialouge is gone only with some good jokes from Matthau's character, the road movie and rom com replace an amazing witty script, and gags replace any real character devlopment or further expansion aka what a sequel should do. If your a DIE HARD fan of Matthau & Lemmon than maybe this is worth a completionist watch. Otherwise most should skip This. This is the very definition of a pointless but harmless seeqeul. See more 02/06/2021 Thirty years later sees Oscar and Felix reuniting for the wedding of their children, who have apparently met and become engaged. The plot is pretty flimsy, but that isn't why we are here, and serves simply as a vehicle which allows Matthau and Lemmon to do their thing. On a side note there were also two F bombs dropped which I rarely see in a PG-13. See more 08/20/2020 It was such a wonderful comedy.
