This movie, about an not-so-kilter proofreader provides a lot of ugly characters, equally ugly office environments, and a whole weird sick character development thing that I shant spoil for you. Loads of fun. See more 09/26/2019 What's with the universally rotten reviews? Methinks this film was ahead of its time & people didn't really "get" it in '97. It's clearly a satirical take on horror films/psychological thrillers. That said, the scariest part was Doreen's eyebrows. Contrasting this with "When a Stranger Calls" highlights Carol Kane's range, going from the victim of a deranged serial killer to playing one herself. And Jeanne Tripplehorn is excellent here too. I found myself rooting for the villain for some odd reason...likely because she was a victim herself (they alluded to child sexual abuse & made clear she was a social outcast with no friends). See more 02/15/2014 Kind of weird, a bit good yet not really smart. The characters are kind of silly for the most part, and the movie drags on for a while, but there is some interest. It doesn't quite hit any marks though, or maintain to any sort of memorability.
