Critics Consensus

This slice-of-life story of a teenage girl in Echo Park is both a sweet crowd-pleaser and a perceptive look at socioeconomic community issues.

Touching, charming and very engagingly played, it offers perceptive insights into LA Latino culture as well as solid, slightly old-fashioned entertainment.

This celebrated Sundance prizewinner doesn't look quite so special. Actually, it seems Very Special--as in one of those Very Special Episodes of an ongoing television series.

The writing is not always as developed as one would wish it, but this seems almost paltry in light of the dramatic truth and rivetingly real performances which are elicited.

As a Mexican born in America this is the most realistic thing I've ever seen. A lot of my friends did become pregnant before we turned eighteen. Many of us had quinceañera parties.

The acting came across as amateur The screenplay was shoddy and made me feel like I was watching a poorly crafted high school documentary. The ending was anticlimactic and had no real positive resolution.

Good move, Emily Rios is a great young actress, certain parts were better left unseen, but all in all a pretty good movie.
