A baby zebra gets separated from a traveling circus in a small Kentucky town. It's eventually discovered by horse trainer Nolan Walsh (Bruce Greenwood) and his daughter, Channing (Hayden Panettiere), who falls in love with the animal. She calls him Stripes (Frankie Muniz) and keeps him as a pet. Though Nolan has forbidden Channing from racing ever since her mother was killed in an accident, her ambition is undiminished. With the help of her new pet, she's convinced that her goal can be realized.

Racing Stripes might be good for a few laps with younger viewers, but it's too blandly predictable to truly recommend for an all-ages audience.

Racing Stripes is one of those movies that tries to be heartwarming and fun, but ends up feeling pretty half-baked and mediocre. The concept of a zebra wanting to become a racehorse is unique, but the execution doesn’t fully live up to its potential. The film has a few light and entertaining moments, especially for younger audiences, but a lot of the humor feels forced and the story is very predictable. The talking animal gimmick can be charming at first, but it quickly wears thin as the movie goes on. Some of the characters are likable, but they aren’t developed enough to leave a strong impression. Overall, Racing Stripes isn’t terrible, but it’s not particularly memorable either. It’s watchable if you’re bored or just want something simple, but there are definitely better family movies out there. I’d rate it a 4/10.
