[Rotten Tomatoes] It's really shitty how unknown this movie is because it's a great dark comedy with two perfectly cast actors turning a script that could have been mediocre into something truly special. I'm gonna go out and say that I really, really like this film and I urge anyone to watch it if they have some time to kill. It was really surprising considering that I don't care for the work of director, Randall Cole, very much. This is his only good film in my opinion and I'm not really sure how he pulled it off but kudos to you, sir. Real Time is a very fun piece of indie cinema. Jay Baruchel is gold and his turn in this movie as Andy was a great choice. His comedic timing and delivery made the movie so much better and I don't know who could have done it better in all honesty. Also, it's super cool to see Randy Quaid in this as Reuben, he killed it too. Quaid's Aussie accent was believable and another thing I liked about his performance was that you could see in his eyes how he was feeling about the task at hand as he got to know Andy more and more. They worked so well together and their chemistry alone is worth the watch. Jayne Eastwood's small role was very authentic and helped the movie push along to the great ending. The music choice for certain scenes throughout the movie is a big plus too. If your film has Erik Satie's "Gymnopedie No. 1" and "What Time Is It?" by The Jive Five then I know my ears have been treated delicately. Another thing that worked for me is all the little things Andy chose to do with his time. He never decided to do something huge with his last hour, instead, he chose the simple things he never got closure with and that was a fresher approach. Also, I liked how the film was set in real time, I can't see it filmed any other way. I think my favorite part of the film is the ending, it might have been a little predictable but when certain things began to come to light, it won me over. I remember the first time I saw this, I caught it on television during an overcast day and it affected me deeply. It left me with a lot to think about and that's why I consider this a true hidden gem, apart from it being a great film. I still wish it was on Blu-Ray but it's not really well known so I'm not expecting that to happen. It'd just be nice. S/O to Cleo the cat. Highly recommended. See more 07/21/2013 Brought me to tears.
