The songs of Journey, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard and other artists underscore a tale of big dreams in Hollywood. Soon after hopping off a bus from the Midwest, aspiring singer Sherrie Christian immediately finds herself in trouble. Coming to her rescue is Drew, a bar-back at the legendary club the Bourbon Room. With stars in their eyes, the young lovers chase their dreams, but a misunderstanding involving rock god Stacee Jaxx threatens to tear them apart.

Critics Consensus

Its exuberant silliness is almost enough to make up for its utter inconsequentiality, but Rock of Ages is ultimately too bland and overlong to justify its trip to the big screen.

Really, it's like a longer, louder version of Glee or American Idol, but with actors who can't sing rather than singers who can't act. Plus, it rocks you like a hurricane.

Not a big fan of this one, but was very entertained and taken back to my youth with all the rock music featured by JOURNEY, FOREIGNER, PAT BENATAR, TWISTED SISTER, REO SPEEDWAGON and others. Rock on dudes and catch this one on Netflix….!!!!

I am so sorry but this movie is so good for those who have not watched it if you’re in the 80s rock band hair bands music is a must see for rockers in the 80s and 90s maybe!

I'm confident to say that this is one of the worst movies I ever saw! XD I really am amazed how they could manage that since there are some very good actors in the cast and I dare say they are the worst characters. Not to mention how they castrated those poor songs. I just wanted to see something funny but when I first laid eyes on Alec Baldwin (no clue what was yet to come with him...) I knew this will be a pain to watch and when 'I wanna know what love is' started to play I cried out loud in embarassment XD I will always love Tom Cruise and would definitely pour some sugar on him but this movie was sooooo ridiculous!

This is a movie I have watched multiple times. Tom Cruise is actually singing the songs in his scenes, and he’s actually decent. He nails Def Leppard’s Pour Some Sugar On Me. They were there when the scene was filmed and absolutely approved. Julianne Hughes is beautiful and her vocals are amazing. Malin Akerman is looking like an uber-model in her supporting role. I keep forgetting this movie is over a decade old. I even bought the movie.

It’s decent. The songs land. The overacting is intentional and funny. Fans of the Broadway play will be disappointed with the removal of the original villains.
