Maria Q @MariaQe 2d Romancing the Stone is what happens when a romance novel, an Indiana Jones movie, and two people with absolutely no business surviving the jungle decide to go on vacation together. Michael Douglas is effortlessly charming, Kathleen Turner is fantastic, Danny DeVito is having the time of his life, and the whole movie moves with the energy of a great mixtape. One minute you’re laughing, the next you’re ducking crocodiles. It’s funny, romantic, ridiculously entertaining, and packed with the kind of chemistry Hollywood used to make look effortless. Basically, the perfect adventure movie for anyone who believes true love should involve treasure maps, terrible decisions, and at least one very muddy pair of pants. Kathleen Turner was on a roll in the early 80s and her transformative performance here is first comically excellent and then very sexy. Call this Raiders of the Lost Ark light but on its own you have a quirky, exciting, funny and very well acted crowd pleaser and adventure romance. Michael Douglas and Danny DeVito are excellent with great support from a very funny Alfonso Arau and a very evil Manuel Ojeda. The hook was effective and the pacing even. Sure, there are things that could have been improved slightly, but whenever I think of the action-romance genre this is the first movie that comes to mind. See more Melissa M @Lisey Jun 25 In the beginning of the movie Joan Wilder is a hapless hopeless romance writer living with her lovable cat Romeo. By the end of the movie she is a hopeful heroine. Joan's widowed sister Elaine is kidnapped by smugglers Ira & Ralph. They informed Joan she needs to bring the map that will lead to the location of El corazon that was sent to her to Cartagena. While on the bus Joan distracts the bus driver the bus crashes into Jack t Colton's vehicle. Jack reminds her of a real life Jesse. A character she created in her romance novels. Jack only agrees to help Joan because she promises him 375 in travelers checks. As they go out on their wild adventure they encounter everything from antique smugglers, zolo & his menacing military. They get help from an unlikely source Juan a drug lord who it turns out is a huge fan of Jones novels. The movie is like a cross between Tomb Raider & Raiders of The Lost Ark.
