Mike P @RT09890132 Aug 12 Pretty good Don Bluth adaption of the classic Robert O'Brien story; about a tribe of ambitious, super-intelligent rats, trying to make a better life for themselves, and escape human persecution; meanwhile local fieldmouse Mrs. Brisby is trying to save her home from being destroyed by the farmer's tractor, before the harvest. The set up is great, (ambitious animals trying to break up the food chain is a classic Man VS Nature trope), and there's a lot of exciting scenes here...And I liked the heroine...Even if Bluth Tolkienizes the characters, (the owl turns into a demonic Smaug clone, strangely)...He overdoes things, and gives us a ridiculous Star Wars type ending which doesn't fit at all. A little more nuance would have helped...Still pretty good, overall, though; a nice, ambitious non Disney animated epic...At a time when that was rare...Indeed, Bluth was able to carve out a successful niche for himself during this era when Disney still reigned supreme, and monopolized animation. See more Elliot B @ReichReview Jul 17 Had to watch this movie after learning it is an allegory for two types of jews(mice and rats) living at the foot of God(farmers) while being controlled via fear by the "antisemites"(cats-curious). Nicodemus says that before the great "calamity" they were just humble rats, stealing for their food and living off the hard work of decent men(banking and speculation, never building anything) but since then they must also live off all of their technological advancements as well to survive. This movie is an incredible allegory of the history of the jewish victimhood complex, grasping esoteric notions and patterns most people will never recognize. It is really dark in dramatic. I think you have to be really old to understand it. Well, you probably won’t even understand it when you’re old is there’s no matter and the other a rat that get injected with needles and there’s a sword fight and stuff in the main character gets killed and I wish it was more like the book but I thought the book was even sad. I would’ve gave it zero of stars, but I can only give it have a stars cause that is low as it goes. If there was negative I’d give it 1 million negative this is a horrible movie. I don’t think you could watch them at all and my daughter got scared by hearing the interview. I think you might even got nightmares and I just think you’d get really scared so I don’t think you should watch it when I watched that school, that was just not for me.
