"Secret Society of Second-Born Royals" is such a sad baby chimera of second-wave digital content that the mere act of reviewing it feels unnecessarily hostile. Go to Full Review

Second Born Royals feels like a PG version of Kingsman: The Secret Service with humor and an aesthetic akin to Disney Channel features. Go to Full Review

It's slick and generally solid comic-book-style fun, with uniforms and everything, as these youths discover their powers and Astin provides welcome humor as the group's able if exasperated mentor. Go to Full Review

Undiscerning kids may forgive the film its many foibles, but that's probably not be enough to warrant further episodes. Go to Full Review

The film's premise is basically a haphazard combo of The Princess Diaries and X-Men with half the charm and an eighth of the budget... Go to Full Review

Ky'Asia J @RT07973310 6h Loved this movie. It sucks that it wasn’t promoted when it came out but it was good. I would say I wish the production was more considerate of the characters dressing more modest for the sake of children being the core audience of Disney. But everything else about the movie was good. Especially the lessons taught. See more Alex M @RT92362520 01/29/2023 It was made by the Disney Channel for Disney plus and very much shows. See more derek l @RT51637195 12/27/2022 Secret Society of Second Born Royals is quite an underwhelming attempt to do a teen-superhero flick that really lacked anything exciting in terms of its plot and direction in addition to the characters that didn't really seem to have any chance to shine. See more 05/14/2022 Yep this is a bad attempt to make a SuperHero movie. There was no fun in this movie, everyone was so moody and bitchy. I think the actors needed a paycheck. See more 03/09/2022 Enjoyed watching it . I really liked it because I can some how relate to it cause I am similar to Sam not like i am a princess 😜 but yeah her attitude towards her family and friends is similar to mine . See more 02/02/2022 Second-Born Royals begins as an interesting idea but ends tarnished by partially-developed mechanics, unoriginal characters, and obvious plot twists. A Society of Second-Born Royals who defend the world and keep order could have made a great spy thriller if handled properly. However, the idea becomes encumbered by adding gimmicky superpowers. Not only does the story not explain why the second-borns of royal families exclusively have powers beyond saying "genetics," it fails to maintain that explanation moving forward. Almost immediately after we get the line about genetics, we're told one of the second-borns is a twin, born a minute later than her brother, yet has powers when her brother doesn't, despite the only difference in their order of birth being chance and not genetics. Second, the characters are stereotypical, which the movie even acknowledges by referring to the group as the breakfast club. From the secret, but obvious, secondary villain to the protagonist, every character is one-sided and hollow, intended to fit a single designated role and character development arc. A personal point on representation, our token gay side character mentions his husband by name, which I both hated and appreciated. I'm assuming they hoped to be able to argue that "at least we didn't just say he was gay" when it would eventually be pointed out they were making a character gay to tick a box. As for plot twists, none of them were truly surprising. Everything from the secret second villain to the final weapon is laid out. As Chekhov said, if a gun is mentioned, assume it'll have a ticking clock for suspense and that the hero will eventually turn it against the villain at the last moment. See more Read all reviews
