I really hate that this "frenchise" now went into the hands of the racist patriot Taylor Sheridan. I can't not wait to see what he will do with it. Emily Blunt gives the film its emotional center, portraying a principled agent whose confidence slowly gives way to uncertainty as she discovers how the operation actually works. Benicio del Toro's Alejandro is equally compelling, particularly because the film reveals his character and motivations so gradually. The confrontation with the cartel boss is one of the film's most disturbing and memorable sequences, while the cinematography and Jóhann Jóhannsson's haunting score create an atmosphere of constant dread. What makes Sicario especially effective is that it doesn't simply present a battle between good and evil; it places its characters in a world where the distinction becomes increasingly difficult to maintain. . Every time I’ve watched it I’ve got something else out of it. The film is masterfully shot, it’s incredibly intentional. Denis Villeneuve is a genius.
