Critics Consensus

Silent Night, Deadly Night embraces the franchise's inherent absurdity while surpassing the original with sharper filmmaking, richer characterization, and politically astute, pitch-black satire.

Nelson doesn’t go nearly far enough in subverting the twinned formulas he is playing with, turning the whole affair into a gory, soggy slog with few surprises and little energy.

It was a promising beginning, somewhat reminiscent of Dexter. I truly appreciate the concept and hope to see a second installment. It's an entertaining film, perfect for the holidays. I particularly enjoy the blend of horror and Christmas themes.
