Young Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment) is haunted by a dark secret: he is visited by ghosts. Cole is frightened by visitations from those with unresolved problems who appear from the shadows. You leave slightly asquirm. You know it will linger. It becomes a clammy, chilly movie building toward a revelation that you cannot predict. As I say: I cannot tell you. You'd hate me if I did. Bruce Willis is wonderfully understated, Haley Joel Osment is extraordinary, and the whole movie has that eerie feeling of a memory you can’t quite place. The dialogue is simple but devastating, the atmosphere is immaculate, and every room feels like it has something it’s not telling you. And then comes that twist. You may see it coming. You may not. Either way, suddenly you want to rewind the whole movie and watch it again with completely different eyes. Beautiful, creepy, heartbreaking, and proof that sometimes the best horror movie is the one that quietly breaks your heart first. Original plot, unpredictable twists, solid pacing and really believable acting that sets the ambience of the film. Bruce Willis is great as always but I have to especially praise Haley Osment.
