Charles Martin does keep things moving along, but his attempts to ignite proceedings with a touch of Guy Ritchie swagger are a bit hit and miss, while the story itself offers few surprises.

Despite having Orlando Bloom trying to branch out away from his image, The Shanghai Job robs any chance of that happening with its dull storytelling, cardboard cutouts of characters, tension-free action and lame attempts at humour.

Don't waste your time. Even with Orlando Bloom in the lead, this action-spy movie is forgettable and badly executed. The plot, about transporting valuable art and mixed up with mobsters and fistfights, adds nothing to the genre and gets stuck in clichés and absurd situations that never connect. The performances, Bloom's included, lack depth, and the script gives nobody dialogue or situations to build interesting characters. His look is hardly believable either. The action is below what you'd expect: the fights and chases are simple, with uninspired choreography and no excitement. The aerial views of Shanghai are welcome, but they can't make up for everything else. With no clear direction and the feeling that it was all done without passion or creativity, it plays like a low-quality TV movie. Even Bloom's fans will struggle to defend it. The Shanghai Job is a bland, unmemorable thriller that doesn't justify its running time.

I thought it was good overall for car chases and action, but we don't really get much of a back story on the characters to care about them.

Smart Chase is a pretty average action movie. There’s really nothing about this movie that’s a memorable average acting, average plot and some average action scenes. The movie gets a little slow in a few spots as well. It’s an OK filmI feel like heist films or a fan of Orlando bloom and it’s a watchable film there’s just not much here that you’ll remember.
