Young Han Solo finds adventure when he joins forces with a gang of galactic smugglers and a 190-year-old Wookiee named Chewbacca. Indebted to the gangster Dryden Vos, the crew devises a daring plan to travel to the mining planet Kessel to steal a batch of valuable coaxium. In need of a fast ship, Solo meets Lando Calrissian, the suave owner of the perfect vessel for the dangerous mission -- the Millennium Falcon.

What's onscreen simply isn't magical enough. It might please die-hard fans to know how Han got the last name or how he made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs...But I think even they might be disappointed.

The heart of the "Star Wars" films has always been about delivering an adventure that would inspire the imagination of the 12-year-old in me, something that paid homage to the old action and fantasy movies I loved. "Solo" delivers on that.

What are we looking for in a film like Solo: A Star Wars Story? The answer, I think, is simple: Films that value a good story most of all. Solo may be entirely unnecessary, but at least it does that.
