In post-9/11 New York, a Muslim cabbie (Abdellatif Kechiche) is suspicious of an American woman's (Robin Wright Penn) motives when she insists on trying to help his jailed brother. The woman's actions set in motion a chain of events that lead to the revelation of a horrible truth.

Critics Consensus

Robin Wright Penn and Abdel Kechiche's powerful performances aren't enough to keep the increasingly unbalanced Sorry, Haters from tottering completely off its axis.

A preposterous screwball psychological drama called Sorry, Haters, a film roughly as successful as the phrase 'screwball psychological drama' implies.

It contains such a gripping performance by Robin Wright Penn that it succeeds, in a way, despite itself. To see great work is a reason to see an imperfect movie, and to observe how the movie loses its way may be useful even if it's frustrating.

A product of a younger, confused generation raised on a junk diet of corporate media propaganda and tabloid news substituting hip for history, it's distanced from any candid self-reflection, while demonizing women as the main source of global distress.

Robin Wright nails crazy lady in this all-over-the-place drama. When she hails an Arab cab driver, their stories start to mingle as Wright weaves a big web of lies. Most of the movie is unexpected, right up until the end.

This to me was one of those philosophical movies that just ends up being an oversimplified conversation about very important issues. I don't want to spoil the ending for you, but if you make it past the half-way mark, it's worth sticking around for.

A strange movie that will make you angry, confused, sad, indifferent, happy for a second, then shocked as hell. I didn't know how to feel.

The movie starts with Penn and Kechiche on a cab ride. That scene is flawless! Then Stanzler takes this movie on several turns that just don't fit, especially one near the end that will shock you. Now the movie fails in my mind but it's worth watching for Penn. How she was able to look at this script and come out with this performance is beyond me.
