Set ten years after the events of "The Phantom Menace," the Republic continues to be mired in strife and chaos. A separatist movement encompassing hundreds of planets and powerful corporate alliances poses new threats to the galaxy that even the Jedi cannot stem. These moves, long planned by an as yet unrevealed and powerful force, lead to the beginning of the Clone Wars -- and the beginning of the end of the Republic.

Critics Consensus

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones benefits from an increased emphasis on thrilling action, although it's undercut by ponderous plot points and underdeveloped characters.

Clones is the anti-Phantom Menace — funny, complex and enormous fun.

The computer-generated effects dazzle, and the story, while complicated in the manner of a comic-book serial, clips along at a decent pace.

As routine as much of "Clones" is, the movie nevertheless does offer its share of impressive, effects-driven sequences.

Great action, great effects, some laughs for everyone, plenty of in-jokes and more to come. What more could any audience ask?

Attack of the Clones is definitely an improvement over Episode I, but it’s still far from perfect. The movie has some great moments, especially when it comes to expanding the Star Wars universe and introducing the Clone Wars. Obi-Wan’s investigation is easily my favorite part, bringing a sense of mystery to the story. Christopher Lee also delivers a memorable performance as Count Dooku. Unfortunately, the awkward dialogue and stiff acting hold the movie back, especially during some of Anakin and Padmé’s romantic scenes. While the story can feel inconsistent, the political conspiracy and world-building make it worth watching. A solid entry that sets the stage for a much greater sequel.

I think this movie took a small step in the right direction compared to the previous movie. It was a lot less childish and there were a lot more really good things to say about it. The opening sequence was really cool with Anakin and Obi-Wan chasing Jango’s bounty hunter. Obi-Wan vs Jango Fett was also EPIC and seeing Boba Fett’s origin story as well as the origin of the clone troopers was awesome! The battle of Geonosis was also EPIC and Count Duku was an AWESOME character even though he was written in at the last minute because of the criticism from the previous movie. What is not good about this movie is nearly every scene with Padme, Anakin, and or C-3PO. I mean… literally just skip any scene they are in and you do not miss much. Their roles in this movie were unfortunately boring for the most part. However, I personally believe this movie still takes a small step forward compared to the last one. 7/10
