A village leader hires Premachandran to dig a well in Swapnabhoomi, a place with deadly customs. Premachandran accepts despite reports of previous workers dying. While working, he falls in love with Devayaani, violating a rule against courting outsiders. The leader promises the couple can marry only if the well fills with water.
