Ro K @Kein_indianer Aug 31, 2026 Watching this dull detective story could make you wonder how boring and badly a detective story can be told. But it's worth looking closer. Bill Finger, who created Batman, admitted how strongly he had been influenced by The Shadow – Lamont Cranston, who's called Lamont Granston here. The Shadow started a few years earlier as a detective story in The Shadow Magazine, and its success resulted in a radio series, movies, and also comics. Modern audiences might only have heard of The Shadow from the 1994 movie – a movie I love very much and which has aged brilliantly. This movie is almost a disgrace to the character. It's not badly acted, but it's directed in an absolutely amateurish way and, as mentioned before, told in a boring manner. Nevertheless, it can be seen as the father of Batman. See more

Oct 3, 2020 I listened to the Shadow on radio and love it. This was not a Shadow movie. It was an attempt to make one, but it is a disappointment. See more

Dec 30, 2016 This might as well have been a Saint or Lone Wolf film since it bears little resemblance to the books or radio show. See more

May 13, 2014 5.5/10. Interesting curio and early entry into the low budget "The Shadow" series. Not too bad. The cinematography and editing could have been better, and there isn't much of a score. It is entertaining for the most part. See more

Jul 22, 2011 Cute old mystery film with a stereotypical ending. Fun if you're a fan of the old radio drama. See more
