This is not the messiah. Nor is it a very naughty boy. There was an opportunity for a truly original spin on the so-called Greatest Story Ever Told here, but The Carpenter’s Son pulls its punches to make a rather rote horror that amounts to little.

Cage is a poor casting decision: he’s distractingly frantic as Joseph. And Nathan overuses histrionic sound design to disguise the fact that the film is not as creepy or frightening as it wants to be.

An intriguing but frustrating biblical horror that never commits. Strong ideas and a solid Noah Jupe performance can’t save a tonally confused film where Nicolas Cage feels miscast and ambition collapses into a muddled, forgettable experience.

You’ll want to grab The Carpenter’s Son by its lapels and tell it to just go for broke, leap off the rails, piss people off, rub the cat the wrong way, cant an angle, throw in a car chase, something, anything please, but it never does.

Cast did a solid job w what they were given- they didnt permit themselves to use the main characters names which felt half hearted but the performances were decent- led to an interesting premise and execution

This is made for TRUE CHRISTIANS! WHO have an open brain. I have studied Relgion for most of my life. & this is a brutal honest take. A young Jesus will still sin. I never felt more connected to this incredible young man playing Jesus. This isn’t horror it’s just HONEST & very Real! No True Christian would dare speak a word AGIANST this! It’s because they didn’t see the film. & FKA Twigs is incredible the power she holds in her body while acting. I can’t wait to see what this director does next! The flies in the film the metaphor for humans. & you want to know more. Read the BOOK OF THOMAS! Even if Jesus was just a man he’s a man that preached love & had to fight real human evil! & he told us to still love & forgive! When that boy YELLS! None of you WILL JUDGE! I will Only do that. The chills just ran through my body!

I am biased because I love FKA Twigs, but honestly loved it. Great acting, insane visuals. Slow burn, but I was moved by the performances and imagery. I would love to see it again.
