Meet the Cat in the Hat you don't know! In the wonderfully whimsical tradition of Dr. Seuss, The Cat in the Hat comes to the big screen in his animated theatrical feature film debut, an all-new, epic adventure with an edge, where mischief, magic and mayhem reign supreme. Doing what he does best, the Cat--voiced by Bill Hader--spreads joy to kids in his hilarious, signature and singularly irreverent way, transporting them and audiences on a fantastical journey through a world they've never seen before. In the film, our hero takes on his toughest assignment yet for the I.I.I.I. (Institute for the Institution of Imagination and Inspiration, LLC): to cheer Gabby and Sebastian, a pair of siblings struggling with their move to a new town. Known for taking things too far, this could be this agent of chaos's last chance to prove himself... or lose his magical hat!

Hader's The Cat In The Hat is certainly better than Myers'. But so is plucking out my nose hairs with needle-nose pliers.

But there is nothing Seussian about this movie besides the fact that someone at his estate greenlit this hot mess. You can replace the Cat in the Hat with, say, a Pig in a Wig, and the outcome would be the same.

Captures the anarchic yet warm-hearted spirit of the original Dr. Seuss story, and it wisely sends the lead character off on a new adventure rather than try to bloat the classic 1957 tale into feature length.

With a female-led Latino family at its center, The Cat in the Hat leaves behind some of the biases that show up in a lot of other children’s movies.

Generations of Dr. Seuss fans will find the mischievous feline and his wacky blue-haired "things" instantly recognizable, but may be surprised by the depth of a heartfelt new adventure set in a vastly more detailed universe.

The film has some echoes of "Toy Story" with its life lessons and weird playthings, but its Seussian look and language predominate, the Things and Waffles particular highlights, the indispensable Matt Berry deserving of his own spin-off.

I actually kinda liked it.. for 25 minutes. Then it soured like milk left in the sun . Shame because I loved ALL the cat in the hat books as a kid.. Read and re-read them many times over..But this movie?..Would have left halfway thru, but I had a 6 year old watching with me and he wanted to tough it out until the end..2 out of 5 stars isn't that bad , but not great either..

I’ve spent more than twenty years trying to forget Mike Myers’ The Cat in the Hat, and Warner has finally decided to help with the healing process. The solution was simple: put the character back where he always belonged — in animation, where reality is basically optional. The script plays things much safer. The structure is familiar, the threat never feels especially dangerous, and some of the emotional resolutions arrive a little too quickly. But the visual creativity makes up for a lot. Just seeing the Cat be weird, colorful, and cartoonish without looking like a creature straight out of a nightmare already feels like a win. Mike Myers, you can finally rest.
