Insurance salesman Michael MacCauley is on his daily commute home, which becomes anything but routine. After being contacted by a stranger, Michael is forced to uncover the identity of a hidden passenger on the train before the last stop. As he works against the clock to solve the puzzle, he realizes a plan is unfolding, and he is caught up in a criminal conspiracy that carries life and death stakes for everyone on the train.

If the film is mostly disposable and too familiar, the initial face-to-face encounter between Neeson and Farmiga proves that talented actors can make lousy writing sound better. But that single moment is hardly enough to justify the rest.

If I wish that Neeson had an opportunity to show more gravitas in the throes of his sweaty unravelling, I recognize this is partly my disappointment that we didn't get his Unforgiven before he put this side of himself out to pasture.

A convoluted plot needs to make sense at some level so when lines cross and things come together, the viewers can have a penny drop moment and see it's workings. Sadly not the case here. Too many ludicrous fight scenes also.

Amazing cinematography and a compelling storyline and the lead had me rooting for him the entire time. Some parts felt a little cliche at times, but still worth the watch

Any movie doesn't have to be believable, like in reality, to be enjoyable. That would lean more to documentaries. Charismatic characters and an interesting story is all it needs to be worthy of a watch. So many other aspects of what makes a movie better than average just layer more compelling reasons to feel a part of the story and to be moved by the characters. This one was groovy and well worth the watch, but then I'm a sucker for a story with Liam Neeson in it.
