Critics Consensus

A rare film that surpasses the quality of its source novel, this Devil is a witty expose of New York's fashion scene, with Meryl Streep in top form and Anne Hathaway more than holding her own.

Deborah Ross The Spectator 08/22/2018
It's Meryl's movie, everyone says, and in a way it is. She gives a furiously funny performance as a furiously nasty bit of work... But, as I said earlier, scenes without her suffer horribly. Go to Full Review

An agreeably shallow comedy. Go to Full Review

Makes one pine for any comparable '50s working-girl comedy (or, for that matter, 1988's Working Girl). Go to Full Review

When you think of the final years of Fox before the Disney acquisition, The Devil Wears Prada is one of the standout films--they don't make them like they used to. Go to Full Review

If looks can truly kill, Meryl Streep's Miranda may very well be the fashion industry's most notorious serial killer. Go to Full Review

Raymond B @Sliderguy46 15h I’ve seen this so many times I can’t even count, perfect movie in any (run)way. That’s all. See more D3Z 1 @RT51637195 5d Even though parts of the film was not quite perfect, but the film certainly shared plenty of witty and great development amongst its characters especially from its performances of Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway who made The Devil Wears Prada worth a watch. See more Tyler P. @TylerPhoenixMD 5d This movie is amazing, hands down, one of my favorite fashion films! See more wendy K. @wkalthoff Apr 4 I loved it. The acting was excellent and the storyline was very fascinating. I did not know that much about the movie beforehand. See more Martha R @martrhod Mar 30 Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt all get five stars from me. As one reviewer noted, scenes without one of them suffered. But I found all the other characters not very believable. I don't hate the boyfriend; but I didn't feel any chemistry with the boyfriend and Anne Hathaway or with the whole friend group. Anne Hathaway was not very believable as frumpy and then went from frumpy to fashionista with incredible ease.
