When married couple Simon (Jason Bateman) and Robyn (Rebecca Hall) unexpectedly encounter Gordo (Joel Edgerton), an acquaintance from Simon's past, little do they know that their perfect lives will be thrown into a terrifying tailspin. At first, Simon doesn't recognize Gordo, but after a troubling series of uninvited encounters and mysterious gifts, a horrifying secret emerges. Wholly calculated and far smarter than its slasher flick marketing, "The Gift" exudes a slow boiling creepiness that, for the most part, doesn't jump the shark or digress into that aforementioned gutter of cheese.

It may play as a standard stalker film in the beginning, it slowly evolves into something else. It’s sad, disturbing, and a fairly unpredictable film. The ending is abrupt, but it allows the viewer to make their own conclusion — which I quite liked.

A fantastic film with stellar acting and precise direction. While a few parts are predictable, the strong script mostly surprises. Although it isn't a horror movie, it delivers a gripping, near-constant sense of tension with clever twists. Highly recommended!

Solid movie with good acting. The plot was a little bit of a reach for me as this isn’t a realistic reason for such extreme vengeance. And if that’s coming from me, I promise it to be true. Overall, good movie and acting. Not going to be your favorite movie but will likely be above average.

Simon runs into an old high school friend after buying a house with his pregnant wife. This feels like a spinoff of the bully Jason Bateman was in Central Intelligence.

Synopsis
