When married couple Simon (Jason Bateman) and Robyn (Rebecca Hall) unexpectedly encounter Gordo (Joel Edgerton), an acquaintance from Simon's past, little do they know that their perfect lives will be thrown into a terrifying tailspin. Wholly calculated and far smarter than its slasher flick marketing, "The Gift" exudes a slow boiling creepiness that, for the most part, doesn't jump the shark or digress into that aforementioned gutter of cheese.

It may play as a standard stalker film in the beginning, it slowly evolves into something else. It’s sad, disturbing, and a fairly unpredictable film. The ending is abrupt, but it allows the viewer to make their own conclusion — which I quite liked.

At 92% this movie is ridiculously overrated. It's a slow burn thriller, like slooow slow, until things come together at the end, but honestly nothing about it is that phenomenal, the acting is awkward, the story is lackluster, and most of the characters have no personality. Then showing a lady giving a difficult birth when it really has no connection to the story, what a cheap move, uncalled for. I'll give it a generous two stars.

Just watched this and thought it was amazing. I love a thriller that keeps me guessing, and this one had me questioning everyone. The tension builds without feeling forced, and just when I thought I knew where it was going, it gave me another reason to doubt myself. That ending really messed with my head—in the best way. Definitely one of those movies you finish and immediately want to talk about.
