Critics Consensus

Neither intelligent enough to work as thought-provoking sci-fi nor trashy enough to provide B-movie thrills, The Last Days on Mars proves as cinematically barren as the titular planet.

Liev Schreiber and Romola Garai struggle to find chemistry in their Mars rover, while Olivia Williams keeps her exasperation at full throttle.

A sci-fi-horror yarn stocked with a winning cast but hobbled by a lamebrained script and dull set pieces.

This sci-fi drama begins promisingly but loses its way in the Martian dust.

Suspension of disbelief is a requirement for any science fiction film, but this one loses its intelligence and jumps too far down the sinkhole it started with.

Spends a bit too much time in faux Kubrick Mode before switching to full-on Corman style exploitation, but once it clicks over it'll make your pulse race.

There is lots to like in this horror sci-fi, about a team of astronauts ending their 6 month stay on Mars, that doesn't add a lot of new ideas to this genre, but stays afloat with decent perfomances and keeps you interested to the very end, just to see who will make it. Quarantine Protocol!!!!!!

Bad writing, poor character development, inconsistent character motivations. Attempts to be an alien-zombie-science fiction-love story and fails on all points.

Meh...it wasn't good but it wasn't terrible...something to watch but nothing I ever need to see again. I thought the acting was fine, it just didn't have enough umph to make you care about any of the characters.

Inexplicable garbage. A script written by a random word generating algorithm performed by a no-star cast. Producers and distributors should be brought up on charges.

Just watched this on Prime. Solid actor and good performances, but I don’t get anyone who says it was well shot. Many scenes are too dark or obscured by dust clouds to tell what is happening. Several overly long scenes of the sky or other things designed to tell you a character is thinking or longing. Predictable after the first problem, and not a strong ending. Lost potential.
