It gestures at themes like immortality and loneliness, but mostly delivers formulaic chases, gunfights, and a flat villain. The best part is the immortals concept. Quynh’s endless drowning and Booker’s guilt-filled life briefly show immortality as a curse, not a gift. As an action film, it fails: the combat is dull and forgettable, with only Andy’s fire axe scene standing out—nearly fatal for its genre. The core issue is tonal mismatch. A potentially thoughtful story about time and loss is buried under a formulaic plot, making it feel like two films awkwardly stitched together. Characterization is thin. Only Nile, Booker, and Merrick matter; others feel like placeholders. Andy relies on Charlize Theron’s presence, and the villain is carried mostly by Harry Melling’s performance.
