Critics Consensus

The Simpsons Movie contains the hearty laughs, biting satire, and honest portrayal of an American family that makes the show so popular. And it boasts slicker animation and polished writing that hearkens back to the show's glory days.

The big-screen Simpsons are mildly entertaining, but too much of this is as flabby as Homer's belly.

There were plenty of decent jokes, but I've already forgotten most of them; I suspect within a month's time I'll be hard pressed to recall much about the movie at all beyond a vague sense of disappointment.

It's very well written and, as I say, it's consistently funny.

In its long-awaited moment in the limelight, the film can't manage to present itself as much more than a couple of regular episodes tied together.

I'm not sure if this film will draw that many new fans, but the millions who can't get enough of Homer, Bart, Marge, Maggie and Lisa in first-run or syndication will surely be pleased with this latest venture.

This is not a movie so much as a series of loosely connected punchlines.

It is decently funny, but the 'cinematic' elements come off more as creepy and off-putting than particularly exciting. The whole film moves with such an ominous and uncomfortable air that it easily ruins most of my enjoyment.

After I decided to stay at home I chose to see this Simpsons movie. Especially the sequel comes out next year. The Simpsons is a really funny cool show, I'm watching all the episodes and that's a lot of episodes. I'm in season 5 now! So it's funny to rewatch the movie after so many years. It's a cool and funny movie and love all the humor. Can't wait for the sequel next year.

As the longest animated series and one of the most significative of all times , I expected more, but I love the animation.
