What to Know

Critics Consensus

Packed with colorful world-building that's as frenetic as it is weightless, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie's visuals are often out of this world but the threadbare story ultimately loses its Milky Way.

Given the first film's success and the fanbase it helped build for this sequel, you can't help but wonder why the instinct is still to go wider instead of deeper, louder instead of more heartfelt. Go to Full Review

It’s sad to call a movie booming with decades of imaginative characters and settings "disposable," but there aren’t enough Pikmin in the world to distract you from the blatant franchise baiting here. Go to Full Review

First L 30m Movie was good, lots of Nintendo references See more Darian 32m Good movie for the kids really enjoyed it funny asf See more Aman 32m Best movie I enjoyed watching it. Love it See more Andrew G 33m Really good family movie. See more Shaun B 36m Fantastic visuals and music, it was a joy to watch! See more Caitee H 39m We took our 4- and 6-year-old nephews to see the new Super Mario Galaxy movie because they loved the first film, and honestly, we grew up as huge Mario fans ourselves. We were all really excited going in. Unfortunately… this one was a tough watch for both kids and adults. It’s honestly hard to even explain the plot because there barely seems to be one. The entire movie feels more like a nonstop advertisement for Mario World rather than an actual story. It jumps so quickly from scene to scene that there’s no time to connect with anything or anyone. The pacing is incredibly fast and overwhelming—almost overstimulating—and instead of being fun and engaging, it just becomes exhausting. There’s very little emotional depth or meaningful moments, which made it hard for the kids to stay interested. We actually ended up leaving early because they completely lost interest. That says a lot considering how much they loved the first movie. It’s disappointing because the original had charm, humor, and heart—something everyone could enjoy together. This one just feels like constant motion without purpose. Honestly, I’d recommend saving your money and waiting until it’s streaming—at least then you can fast forward. Really hoping if they make another one, it goes back to what made the first so special. See more Read all reviews
