The Wailing takes this idea one step further: What if the devil makes you believe in him — but convinces you that he is someone else? I don’t know what these reviewers are smoking on but y’all are on something else. The whole time I was watching, I was trying to understand the situation. Yes, I am not familiar with the cultural significance and beliefs… however, that shouldn’t be a gateway to throw a nothing burger on the viewers and let people make assumptions off of it. It wasn’t scary, disturbing nor clever. I only completed it because at that point I just wanna know if there’s any saving factor. ALL THAT FOR THAT ENDING? THIS WAS BAD AND IM SO UPSET. Great actors tho cuz if i knew that was the script I wouldn’t be on the set. It’s ok to say it’s a bad movie when it is. See more Angel C @RT52825895 Aug 15 Sitting through 2.5 hours is already a considerable investment of time and attention, but The Wailing never feels interested in giving anything back for it. Instead, the reward is snobbery dressed up as profundity: an absurdly intricate web of metaphors, religious imagery and deliberate ambiguity, all leading into a labyrinth that eventually feels like even the filmmaker has forgotten the way out. It mistakes obscurity for depth and confusion for intellectual sophistication. It breaks the basic pact of horror: the protagonist does everything he can, fights like hell, and still gets crushed by a ridiculous and inevitable cosmic trap.
