Critics Consensus

Despite its sportsmanlike swagger, Two for the Money's aimless plot isn't worth betting on.

It still seems like there should be more tension in Two for the Money than simply watching grown men bite their lips as they watch pro games on TV monitors.

It really works as a study of gambling.

Critics are likely to interpret Pacino's work as intentional self-parody, because he's smart enough to know that he's played this kind of unhinged father figure too many times

Two for the Money runs hot and cold. While I did appreciate some elements of the film, it couldn't overcome a dreadful final act that sinks an otherwise amiable film.

Even at his worst Al Pacino can charm the birds from the trees, but in "Two For The Money" pigeons are the only species visiting.

While there are parts of Two for the Money worth watching, it's ultimately not one worth putting your money on.

Filthy cursing for nothing. Bunch of children and one jerk boss that is insecure. They start arguments in the most awkward situations. Plus i don't know who they market to LMAO.

Well the title is right - the actors did it for the paycheck.

Really good story. I live for movies about people rising to the top and this is definitely one of those movies. The acting was solid along with the plot. I would recommend this to everyone.

Before diving into the review, the movie tells the true story of football player Brandon, whose career ends with an injury, and his life flips when he gets a call from Walter, who runs a legal betting business. From there, they get into a fast-paced relationship to make money. The story is great, with strong, short side dialogues, and without exaggeration, the film keeps tension and suspense in every key scene. Matthew McConaughey and Al Pacino deliver tremendous performances, especially Al Pacino. Their chemistry is on point, making it feel real, not just acting. I appreciate D. J. Caruso for showing the measurable life of a gambler. However, the movie lacks good camera work and writing, and the ending was a bit confusing. Overall, I give it a solid 6.5/10, recommended to watch for the great acting.
