See more Carol H @RT63576588 06/16/2023 I was finally able to get some uninterrupted time to watch and it's wonderful! Liv and Alex are so genuine in their performances ~ which is why I think this movie is raw, emotional, insightful, heartbreaking and heartwarming all in one package. As a straight female, I can't begin to imagine the sense of disassociation with one's gender and body as Denny did. Or the pain and anguish of having to go through all that and dealing with others and society's expectations as they figured it out. Having the various actors portray the various stages of how Denny felt was confusing at first, I'll admit, but once I realized what it represented, it was really brilliant. We did see some of how this impacted Ryan ~ the confusion, the anger, the compassion, but since the movie is about Denny's journey, I felt the limited POV of Ryan made sense. You didn't sugar coat things or paint a morbid picture of the feelings and challenges that those that are non-binary go through. And maybe that's naïve of me, but I think you struck a really good balance. Thank you for making this movie. This helped give me a glimpse into their feelings that I wouldn't have otherwise known. See more Lydia K @RT91616446 04/12/2023 I've watched Under My Skin twice now and, and can't stop thinking, talking about and reliving this beautifully provocative film. It's rare that a film is able to so poignantly communicate the human experience while simultaneously pushing the bounds of well-worn cinematic tropes like that of the ‘boy-meets-girl' indie drama. Under My Skin accomplishes just that in surprisingly lovey ways that left me inspired. The story intentionally explores an atypical romance through an accessible yet nuanced rom-com lens; then seamlessly folds in bold, evocative character choices that create what can only be described as a kaleidoscope of the human experience. It's through this fascinating choice - the use of multiple actors for one character - that the confusion, beauty, joy, suffering and everything between of the gender journey is explored with an aptitude I didn't know was possible to convey on screen. It was moving, sensitive yet surprisingly engaging, and importantly, authentic. A collective of raw, amazing performances (Alex Russell, Liv Hewson, Chloe Freeman were all stand-out, though there wasn't a weak actor in the mix) great dialogue and a soundtrack I can't get out of my head also contributed to the all-around outstanding work.
