SIMAS C @simas_eros Oct 23, 2026 The concept behind this film is better than the film itself. Although it features some memorable scenes that easily find a place in our erotic and sensual imagination, the story is, in truth, bitter and rather uninspiring. A man—who appears to be a free spirit and a seducer—is haunted by the weight of a past relationship; this baggage interferes with the desire for adventure felt by two female friends, leading them down two dead-end paths where no one is left satisfied with the outcome. It is a film that is sadder than it is funny, yet it contains moments of great beauty and sensitivity. See more Henri V @hvalmont Oct 14, 2026 Allen at his most sun-drunk and least neurotic. Two American girls loose in Barcelona: Vicky (Rebecca Hall), engaged and certain of everything, and Cristina (Scarlett Johansson), adrift and hungry for the opposite. Javier Bardem's painter proposes a weekend the way other men propose dinner. Then Maria Elena walks in - Penelope Cruz, Oscar-winning, feral, magnificent - and the postcard becomes the real thing: nobody innocent, nobody punished, desire negotiating nothing. Barcelona shot like a lover's memory. The rare late Allen that earns its glow. Four and a half stars. VCB is charming, witty, funny, and it makes you long for a trip to Spain. Classic Woody Allen dialog paired with beautiful actors. See more John M @RT28370119 Sep 29, 2026 What a piece of pretentious crap. The documentary style narration was extremely annoying See more Huntin P @PaxVobiscum80 Sep 15, 2026 The movie that reunited Javier and Penelope. They fell in love and started a family. Isn't that lovely? As Woody prepares a new movie in Spain (his third), it's worth saying that VCB is, for my money, his best movie of the new millennium. Never mind Midnight in Paris (2011), or Blue Jasmine (2013), both of which are quite derivative. VCB has an energy, a life affirming vivacity, and a brevity, quite unlike any Woody movie since Zelig. No jokes, despite it being a comedy, and no jazz, thank heavens; just Spanish guitar and humorous romantic predicaments. There's also no Woody character in it. I'm still in awe of the way Javier's Juan Antonio saunters across the restaurant and coolly tries to pick-up both Vicky and Cristina. All it takes is confidence, and a private jet, amigos. A fresh love triangle comes into existence with the arrival of Cruz's unstable ex-wife, Maria Elena. Cruz got an Oscar for her performance, and Madrid got jealous, hence the new movie on the horizon.
