Wendy M @atlanticvamp Aug 14, 2026 I keep seeing reviews that the characters are unlikeable and wallow in their self-appointed misery. That's valid, and accurate. Is it rich people and their adjacent partners in LA? Yes, that's also true. But I think that there are some interesting facets to the movie. It's mostly because of Dominic Monaghan and Mira Sorvino playing against their typecasting. Sorvino had been mostly an ingenue before life (read: Weinstein) tripped her career up, so to see her as a mature wife in a long, but troubled, marriage was solid material to work from. Monaghan, meanwhile, diverted himself from playing misunderstood good guys, and is just a garden variety a**hole. Not particularly evil, just a d*ck. He's also allowed to be a sexual person, almost as a defining personality trait, in scenes with Stacey Oristano. James LeGros is the downer as Bob, who wants to be crotchety, but comes off as depression personified. But, in spite of all of that, it's very real. Give it a try. See more
