Presenting multiple facets, historical perspectives and experiences with the U.S. Constitution.

Critics Consensus

Mixing personal reflection and studious research to deliver an impassioned meditation on the U.S. Constitution, Heidi Schreck's play loses none of its verve on screen.

The art and thrill of political debate informs every part of Schreck's work, shrewdly captured for the camera.

This is a highly personal take, not a historical or legal lecture. Yet Schreck succeeds in widening her autobiographical play into a paean for basic fairness...

An audacious idea, one that starts slowly -- at least in this format -- before sinking in its hooks about halfway through.

[It] captures the range of Schreck's autobiographical recounting of her days as a speech debater. Sound dry? Not at all.

What the show does so movingly is to examine the moral leaps that this old, outdated set of rules requires us to make in the present moment.

Though winningly performed by Schreck, the fact that the show is so forthright about the fundamental inequities of the US and yet still considers this structure up for debate speaks to a blinkered worldview, which is quite disappointing.

Initially, I saw a live performance at the Armory Theater in Portland, Ore. I didn't particularly want to see it. I didn't want a lecture, I wanted entertainment. I went only because this play was part of a season package. Well, I'm glad I did. I was impressed with the regional live theater production. I was surprised to learn the New York production was filmed. So, of course, I wanted to compare. I was equally impressed. This is fun, emotional, informative, thought provoking and much needed at this time. Watch it. You're welcome!!

What a gripping, hilarious, painfully real show. A round of applause, please, for Heidi Schreck and her extraordinary analysis of her nation and the all-important document that governs it.

Shreck is a force to be reckoned with and clearly did her research beforehand. I learned so much from her show and hope to continue learning about the atrocities that have been rationalized by the Constitution in hopes of one day making it truly better. A must-see for anyone who considers themselves to be a feminist.

A wonderful, interesting, moving and fun play by Heidi Schrek. I was completely engaged in every moment of this play that made me laugh, cry, and think. It was so fun. Must see.

Interesting, although hardly the most entertaining of films.

My 15-year-old and I are fans of live theatre so when we saw this movie version of a live play listed on Amazon Prime, we were interested. Within 15 minutes, we were hooked! What an amazing evening of theatre. It runs the gamut - part one-woman show, part Constitutional history class, part actual debate - all absolutely well done, all riveting. Parents, if you have a teenager in the house and are looking for something to watch together, I 100% recommend this movie.
