Critics Consensus

Young Einstein suggests Yahoo Serious could be an effective leading man in the right comedic setting -- but this disappointingly uneven outing isn't it.

Serious's most distinguishing feature is his unruly hair, which serves as both a reminder of Einstein's own unkempt mane and the endless series of '80s-era stand-up comedians memorable only for their wacky hairdos. Go to Full Review Desmond Ryan Philadelphia Inquirer May 22, 2013

The movie runs out of -- excuse me again -- energy in the late going, and the invention of the humor is uneven. But Serious plays the title role with charm and lightness. His wild red hair makes Don King's look like a crewcut. Go to Full Review Jay Boyar Orlando Sentinel May 21, 2013

Considering the pre-opening buildup this film has had, it could turn out to be a bigger bomb than the one Einstein's theory anticipated. Go to Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews Jun 25, 2015

Brett H @Hepplerboy137 Dec 13, 2025 Young Einstein is a fun, fast-paced comedy that doesn’t take history too seriously—and that’s exactly its charm. Yahoo Serious brings a goofy, lovable energy to the role of Einstein, turning big scientific ideas into playful, laugh-out-loud moments that feel more like slapstick than a lesson. A standout is Olivia d’Abo as Marie Curie, who adds both sparkle and confidence to the film. Her Curie is smart, bold, and refreshingly independent, holding her own in a movie full of outrageous humor. Olivia d’Abo’s performance brings warmth and wit, making Marie Curie more than just a side character—she’s a highlight. Overall, Young Einstein is a lighthearted, funny movie that mixes science, romance, and comedy into a wildly imaginative ride. It’s silly, entertaining, and perfect for viewers who enjoy clever jokes, quirky characters, and a film that isn’t afraid to be completely absurd. See more Nov 29, 2021 I see why a lot of people don't like this movie its an absolute aussie classic but I must agree that it has little to no humor the only funny scene is when he makes bubbled beer but that's about it. May not be great for watching alone at home but its great for the family. Also young Einstein works decently well as this cartoonish and eccentric as Serious plays this role perfectly See more Dec 23, 2017 This was and remains a brilliant movie. It is currently available on the US iTunes Store, but weirdly not on the Australian one where it will likely find more favour. A funny movie, perhaps you need an Australian sense of humour to get the comedy and the larrikin nature of the characters. See more Read all reviews
