Zombie is visceral film that draws elements from the zeitgeist of the 1970s. Gore scenes are brutal, and dissonant sounds score scenes thematically. The pace is somewhat slow but, it is not the driving element. Pacing is the only bad element to the film. The core of this film is a handful of well crafted scenes with obscene amounts of gore scored to an unhinged background causing near bouts of mania for both the audience and actor alike. Fact About the Title: The film was directly influenced by Romero's Dawn of the Dead. Originally titled "Zombi" in Italy. Thus this film is called "Zombi 2" as a related tag to Romero's film as it was perceived in Italy. A sailboat arrives in New York empty, and the owner’s daughter, having heard nothing from her father, travels to a mysterious island. On the island, they find a doctor experimenting to cure locals afflicted by a mysterious illness. Fulci begins his series of pure horror films here, leaving Giallo behind. See more Justin T @RT08580778 Aug 21 This is a very good Italian gore-fest. The story is a little basic but the violence is excellent. The eye-splinter scene is horrific. The makeup is amazing. The effects are stunning. Sadly it is let down by shockingly bad dubbing which is so common among contemporary films of this time. And the story and characters could be better. This really does have a lot of credibility for a splatter zombie movie, one of the best in the genre. Overall this is a brilliant graphic horror. A real highlight in the Italian horror world.
