Paul S @PaulSmith Aug 1 This should be seen as a companion piece to Yann Demanges's '71. Two movies with very different tones (well, up until the last arc in FDW. As someone who lived through this period at a young age I can vouch for the authenticity of both movies and found both main protagonists to be fully believable. Jim Sturgess in particular embodied real characters that I was familiar with at the time. The critism of the lighter tone in FDW by Oxbridge educated critics completely misses the point. The protagonist in FDW clearly didn't have a full grasp of the consequences of his actions and as such, the movie being from his perspective, has a lighter tone until the real rammefacations are unveiled in the last 20 minutes. I would highly recommend both movies. See more isla s @RT89656869 09/03/2022 This is quite a gritty film, based on a true story. It features some moderate violence, including scenes of torture and so it might be an upsetting watch for some. It features good performances, although the (at times) jerky camerawork may frustrate some. If the story particularly interests you then it may be worth a watch but I wouldn't personally recommend it as such, no.
