Stefan C @RT75330440 Aug 25 This is my first movie review. I have never left a negative review about anything ever before in my life. This is so so bad. This is actually so bad it’s hilarious and I had second hand embarrassment from this movie. If I was an actor in this movie I would not tell anyone ever. The story is just like any other movie… whatever that’s fine. But this movie is just so bad. Acting is so bad, dialogue is so bad, the story is so mid, it’s so dumb it’s so bad I actually had to pick up my phone to write a review. It has to be a tax thing to make a movie like this or something I really don’t know it’s so bad it’s kind of worth watching the first 20 mins if you think you are doing a bad job in your life you can be like ok well at least I’m not 47 Ronin bad in my life. This is rock bottom, as long as you are not doing as bad as 47 Ronin in your life, you are fine. While the fantasy element was a captivating touch, I feel this movie could have benefited greatly from being a more grounded, historically accurate story. Despite its flaws, I enjoyed watching it, and there were plenty of awesome action sequences and stunning visuals to leave me hooked. It's not the greatest movie ever, but it's entertaining enough and has a solid cast. This is one of those films where people aren't being entirely honest (usually) about why they're down rating it. Some people are offended that the main character isn't Japanese, and they seem to think this is "whitewashing" despite Keanu Reeves only being part European. I guess White people get the blame no matter what. The other group is annoyed by the ending of the film, which will understandably alienate a large portion of the audience. Neither group seems to want to admit that their cause for distain here is pretty subjective, so they'll gin up some technical reason for why this totally serviceable film is actually the "worst they've ever seen". The sexy witch played by Rinko Kikuchi alone was worth my time. I also enjoyed seeing Hiroyuki Sanada (as always). Marry the most beautiful girl in town and angers all whose underwear is too tight. Be man, beast, or witch, the Anglo from foreign lands will set things right. We can easily predict everything what is gonna happen next. The only good thing is the production values are very nice. Seeing Keanu Reeves as a samurai in the film is full of fun.
