Brick Mansions is a competent action flick with too much of a sincere focus on entertainment to please the film snobs. It's not a masterpiece by any means, but it might as well be compared to the decade of cinema following its release. I'll definitely watch it again sometime. The only reason I watched Brick Mansions was because it is one of Paul Walker's final films, and it feels exactly like something you would find in Walmart's $5 bin. I also had no idea it was a remake of a French film until writing this review. The movie wastes no time explaining the story before throwing you into the action. The parkour is entertaining, even if the quick cut editing and frequent slow motion become repetitive. Paul Walker is easily the standout, and I liked his chemistry with Lino, although I could never tell if Lino's voice was dubbed, which was distracting. There are plenty of logical issues, and at one point Paul Walker crashes through a ceiling making a superhero landing. It is ridiculous, but kind of fits the movie's over the top style. In the end, it is an easy way to pass 90 minutes, but not much about it stuck with me outside of the touching Paul Walker tribute. Sometimes David Belle gives a good line delivery and Paul Walker does some flawless parkour tricks and sometimes RZA delivered some fun. However, the plot is just messy.
