Critics Consensus

Camp Rock wants to be the next High School Musical, but its forgettable songs and dull premise hold it back.

Camp Rock is the kind of confection that requires copious brushing and flossing immediately afterward, but given Disney's track record, that won't dissuade four out of five girls with Jonas Brothers fever from sinking their teeth right in. Go to Full Review

There are plenty of sound messages about the importance of honesty and not being ashamed of who you are, but it's nothing that anybody hasn't seen a dozen times before. Go to Full Review

It's really a great movie, like a modern-day version of an old Judy Garland-Mickey Rooney picture in which the kids put on a show that improves the lives of all who see it. Go to Full Review

It's all breezily forgettable, though Lovato's smiley heroine is at least endearing. Go to Full Review

thiago s @Thiagostone Nov 28 Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são fracas, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom See more Cameron H @camthemovieman Jun 21 It took me 16 years, but I finally watched Disney’s “Camp Rock” Starring Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas, the film follows a teenage girl who attends a summer music camp for gifted teens. The lead singer of a popular pop band overhears her singing and he sets out to discover who the voice belongs to. The acting is very “campy,” no pun intended, but not too bad. I did enjoy Joe Jonas’s performance, it was the first time I ever saw him act in a movie, because it’s mostly Nick Jonas who’s the more prominent actor, but Joe was funny, brought some good humor to the film. There were some fun dance numbers, but at times it kind of felt like a wannabe High School Musical, but in general the songs weren’t as memorable. Despite a good chunk of the film depicting Demi Lovato using lies and deception to win people over, there is a good lesson about honesty and staying true to yourself. Compared to other mediocre Disney Channel offerings I’ve seen, “camp rock” was decently enjoyable, I’m not a fanatic for it, but I can finally at least say I’ve seen it! See more Tiffani L @RT87520817 03/25/2025 Amazing best ever so good need another and another cool See more Ciaran S @TrainMultifan26 02/25/2024 Camp Rock is a decently good film with fine story, decent acting & a great soundtrack to go with it. See more Alex C @sugarcookie 09/06/2023 I remember having to watch this in class and that was the start of me liking Joe Jonas! Too bad he is an XY at the end of the day! See more 06/21/2023 15 years old and this isn't the worst DCOM But it could use a few tweaks in its storytelling This was however the introduction of Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers Mitchie is a high school student excited to go to Camp Rock and find her passion in music Her mom lucks out working as the chef so that means Mitchie can come with She meets all kinds of campers there participating in instruments, dancing, and singing Although Mitchie has to overcome her shyness and inability to fit into the popular crowd The popular boy band Connect 3 arrives with its leader Shane being so spoiled, he and his brothers are sent to Camp Rock for some soul searching and rediscovering his passion for musical inspiration Plus a bully named Tess aspires to be on top of her game in a singing trio making Mitchie feel insignificant Mitchie and Shane meet but she has to hide who she really is from him Can she keep it secret or lose Shane confirming his views of people pretending to be other people just for the fame and attention? It has to be about not being a label and the music being who you are The writing isn't the best, one song in particular is just so cringeworthy, the bully repeats the same thing about 3 times which is overkill and she never gets a redemptive moment, and it's no secret the Jonas Brothers can't act But a majority of these other songs I did enjoy; they're catchy, hummable, and will stick with you for weeks Camp Rock truly feels like a summer movie given they actually filmed it at an actual summer camp so it has that going for it Demi Lovato shines very brightly here in her breakout role The second film thankfully is a massive improvement but this was a good start for these young stars in the spotlight Camp Rock turned into a cultural phenomenon gaining 8.9 million viewers becoming the 3rd most-watched tv movie on Disney channel So it accomplished something despite all the issues with the writing and story cliches A good lesson about being true to yourself by being silly, sweet, confusing with a dash of perkiness See more Read all reviews
