Alain E @AlainE Feb 19 Definitely an interesting watch. The cinematography with saturated colors and intelligent framing is first class. The story doesn’t exactly carry a message. The protagonist is a young woman whose life is on neutral. She is a cashier at a movie theater and lives alone with a cat. Her emotional immaturity is matched by her appearance and she ends up in a relationship with a high school senior ten years younger. Everybody thinks she is a student at a different high school. When at some point her new friends see her ID with her age, they believe is an expertly made fake. Then things fall apart. The lesson? Don’t date minors, even if you look younger than your actual age? Hopefully, the people who created this can use their skills with a better story. The writing is exceptional naturalistic dialogue and storytelling that pulls you into these characters' lives. Mitzi Akaha is outstanding as the female lead, delivering raw vulnerability and depth. Laird Akeo is equally compelling, bringing warmth and sincerity that's impossible to resist. The cast acts with an authenticity that puts many established stars to shame. What makes Chaperone truly special is its exploration of our need to be loved and how that yearning leads us down unexpected paths. The film meditates on impermanence, life's cycles, and societal judgments around unconventional relationships. This is filmmaking at its purest. Intimate, honest, and profoundly human. A must-see.
