Melissa M @Lisey 2d This movie is the age old story a boy meets girl. But with cocktails. In this film Tom Cruise plays a business student who takes a job part-time as a bartender. He learns how to make cocktails. He and his bar buddy then have dreams of starting their own bar. He eventually hooks up with a bar bunny. As the movie progresses he winds up in jamaica. Where he meets a girl that is Jamaican him crazy. Unfortunately because of a bar-bet he winds up cheating on the girl. And you can pretty much guess what happens after that. The ending of the movie gets a little intense. There are some heartfelt moments. Don't know if this is one of Tom Cruise's best movies. But he's definitely good in it. See more Myron D @RT04576968 5d This movie is a timeless classic. Tom cruise did great in this film alongside Elisabeth Shue. This movie highlighted realistic situations a lot of critics overlooked. Also, the soundtrack to compliment the slides were perfect. Tom Cruise did everything he was supposed to young, relentless, driven, fun, wild, show balance when he worked hard, partied but still managed to get up and go to school in pursuit of his dreams. I absolutely enjoyed Tim Cruise in this movie along with a love interest in Elisabeth Shue. The partnership between the two leads goes to show that everything isn't always as it seems and eventually the partnership goes sour. Two guys throwing bottles and dancing to music is enough for me. Following that advice doesn't make him happier, the girl in his life does. He realizes his older friend destroys himself on that path and Cruise's character decides family and love matter most. Good story. See more Lance L @RT21158311 Oct 5 Tom Cruise was everywhere in the 1980s, and the biggest star of film (and more in years to come). Cocktail is one of my all time favorite films, with its rock and roll soundtrack combining current music (Kokomo) with remakes of early rock music ("All Shook Up", "Rave On"). Cruise is still the somewhat cocky lead trying to get the girl as Brian, but his connection with Bryan Brown's Doug is funny at times, yet heart-filled as a mentor to young Brian. Seeking fortune isn't all it's to be (everyone wanted to make money in the 80s), and how could people NOT love Elizabeth Shue in the film, with her coming off The Karate Kid and Adventures in Babysitting before getting into more serious roles? No it isn't an Oscar-worthy film, but it is a fun watch. And who didn't try and flip bottles like the bartenders in this at the time? See more Read all reviews
