There’s a moment in the film in which Susan Lummis distinguishes fraud from crypto, which this film doesn’t do. This film will age like milk. After hearing Ben on a terribly misleading CBC radio interview I had to see if the documentary was just as bad, and it is. It repeatedly bends over backwards to strawman Bitcoin. Its critiques are all ignorant and shallow to anyone actually well-versed in that asset. There are certainly tons of genuine scams within Crypto, but Ben McKenzie shamelessly misleads his viewers by painting everything with a sloppy broad brush. Anyone seeking an unbiased introduction to cryptocurrency should avoid this film like the plague. Do your own research on Bitcoin as a decentralized store of value / digital gold. Look into stable coins as digital money. Ben documents himself at the 2022 Bitcoin convention when its price was at 44k, today we sit at 80k... If Ben buys some today, perhaps in a decade he'll be able to take his profits and revisit Economics school. (Or at least help give his kids a better education than he received.) See more Urs P @booptoot 1d I was so hyped to see this documentary. Everybody was talking about it, especially that none of the streaming services picked it up. It all felt like a conspiracy, not wanting to start a conversation. But instead of a healthy, reasonable deconstruction of crypto and careful explanation, just HOW and WHY exactly it's a scam (akin to excellent yt video essay by Folding Ideas on NFTs) all we learn is that Ben doesnt trust it, so you shouldnt either. BTW i agree, crypto is a scam and do not invest your money in it - but this documentary doesnt really explain why. Worth noting that this is BENs take on crypto (lots of personal life shots, who cares?) instead of A take on crypto. See more Marc Z @TKDLife 1d I applaud Ben McKenzie for doing what I respect most-diving headfirst into a subject he doesn't understand to gain real expertise. He didn't gain Dunning-Krueger expertise where you do a few searches and pretend you are an expert. He immersed himself and became a real expert and this is a documentary of his journey. His expose in to the topic of Cryptocurrency and its pitfalls is really eye opening and scary. What is also scary is the resistance his film received to distribution. This is a must watch. The establishment doesn't want you to see it. It is good. It is informative. It is a must see. See more Nicholas K @RT92896916 Aug 23 This documentary is good, especially considering it's McKenzie's first. But it's not as good as I'd hoped. Cryptocurrency, Prediction Markets and their ilk are just new spins on old grifts. It's not magic. If some make money... others will lose it. McKenzie, to some extent, has made himself "the face" of opposition to these FinTech predators. For that alone, he gets my dollars and eyeballs. This documentary would have been better served with a bit more substance and a bit less of McKenzie's personal life. That being said, it's a good introduction to anyone unfamiliar with the subject... and why they should be wary. Plus, you get to see Sam Bankman-Fried in all his awkward glory, losing his composure due to a well-placed coffee mug. I hope the movie gets picked up so that more folks can view it and think critically about it themselves.
