TheFilmCritic S @TheFilmCritics Aug 29 While some movies may ask you to suspend disbelief; Flubber asks you to bounce it off the walls. This cheerful, chaotic family comedy is powered almost entirely by Robin Williams, whose manic improvisation and boyish warmth make absent-minded inventor Philip Brainard more endearing than the thin script deserves. The film’s cartoonish visual effects and mischievous goo provide plenty of infectious fun, evoking an expensive live-action Saturday-morning cartoon. But its frantic energy often substitutes for genuine comedy, with repetitive slapstick, underdeveloped romance and broadly drawn villains weighing down the lightweight story. Still, Williams gives the nonsense a welcome sweetness, and the film’s colorful absurdity has a certain nostalgic charm. It is hardly a classic, but there’s enough bounce here to keep Flubber from completely splattering on impact. See more Dakota P @DaCinephile Aug 3 Childhood nostalgia couldn’t save Flubber, and I really thought it would. Plotlines were downright lazy, borderline creepy, and almost entirely unnecessary. (I understand there’s an original, so perhaps they were staying true to the source material?) Flubber as a concept could have been used to tell a much better story, I imagine. Today, a childhood memory died. Not to be dramatic or anything. It is well acted, and both Weebo and Flubber look fantastic in Disney’s upscale for streaming. The quality of the effects genuinely surprised me.  There’s a better science fiction movie hiding inside Flubber.  The green goo needed more screen time and less time should have been spent convincing us that Robin Williams should be rooted for.
